Suffering from Seasonal Impressions..
Someone once said to me, there is no better place in New England to rediscover all that is magical about the holiday season than the towns on Cape Cod. I was standing in the visitors center on the city side of the Golden Gate Bridge at the time and thought this dude must be joking! But he was serious and proceeded to tell me of the wonders he had seen on 'olde cape cod' ..
Flash forward 6 years and I'm re-considering how sane that friendly traveler really was. He had made a case I should at least consider, and now I hoping to convince you, with a few great examples of the seasonal events, to partake in the rich traditions he directed me to, from 3000 miles away.
The Annual Lighting of the Pilgrim Monument
The first is the 2017 lighting of the Pilgrim Monument ceremony will take place on November 22, 2017, from 5-7pm at the Pilgrim Monument & Provincetown Museum. " This year we Illuminate the Monument for everyone who needs a little Light and Love. As a Beacon of Tolerance and Hope for over 100 years, we honor those throughout our world who do not enjoy the Acceptance and Peace we are Thankful for." They will officially “flip the switch” at approximately 6 pm. Even if you cannot make the lighting event, the monument is a 'must see' during this holiday season.
Heritage Gardens 'Gardens Aglow'
Second on this list is a beloved Cape Cod holiday tradition, the 'Gardens Aglow' displays in Sandwich on November 24, 2017 @ 4:30 pm – 8:30 pm . With over nine miles of holiday lights, cozy marshmallow-roasting, merry music as a holiday backdrop , there are visits from Santa, model train displays, and cuddly baby goats, piglets, chicks, and bunnies—this twinkling wonderland is sure to dazzle anyone who enters the festive grounds, decorated by some of the region’s top interior designers and ice sculptures by local artists. 'Gardens Aglow' brings the holiday season to life each year at Heritage Museums and Gardens in Sandwich.
48th Annual Osterville Christmas Open House & Stroll
Next is a smaller yet spectacular, hidden holiday gem, the open house and stroll in Osterville Village on Dec. 8th, this is the oldest stroll on Cape Cod and the Islands , planned events include live music, a visit from Santa, Mrs. Clause and one of Santa's elves, Corn Hole, and a tree lighting at the library. The annual open house & stroll will be held throughout the Village of Osterville. Holiday festivities in the traditionally decorated village include horse-drawn carriage rides, Festival of Trees at the Osterville Museum , trolley rides, carolers, refreshments, music and more!
Giant Holiday Wishes
Finally , holiday lights gleam across all the towns and villages of Cape Cod in this season, but few are as unique as those in the Town of Sandwich. Thanks to Michael Magyar, an artist-sculptor and glass blower, travelers along Route 6A see a dazzling series of lighted figures, animals, and designs outside shops, public buildings, and homes. No holiday night out in the upper cape during the Christmas season would be complete without a glimpse of a few of the wonderful 'Giants' of Sandwich!
These are a few of the multitude of holiday celebrations taking place all around us this Christmas season so partake with neighbors , family, and friends, together you can rediscover all that is magical about the holiday season here in the towns on Cape Cod.
